Welcome to JFC Travel Club
by JFC AdminWelcome to JFC Travel Club, the site that has taken longer to get off the ground than an A380!
The original launch date has slipped from October 2006 to January 2007 and as we speak it’s still nowhere near ready. April 2007 is the new target for a launch. Read on if you want to hear of our plans.
Why did we create this site? Well we travel a lot, and so when travelling why not share our experiences? WikiTravel is an excellent online resource in many ways and we often use it as a starting point for planning travels, other times we may buy guidebooks but they vary in quality and sometimes it’s just fun to go to a random city and explore without any prior knowledge of the place. We want to bring our city experiences to those who are interested. In theory, every section of the site will support commenting but whether that’s enabled will depend on our ability to keep spam at bay.
Why the delay? Day jobs and hosting difficulties initially. In between travel and trying to get the foundations of the site laid down we had severe reliability problems with our first host, after a couple of months trying to chase them up for a refund we finally settled on a new host in January. The new host is both cheaper and more reliable so that is good news going forward.
Plans? It’s important to make money, initially the aim is to cover the hosting and promotion costs. Money will be made using Google Adsense and Tradedoubler referral links. Initial plans are to plough any money made through advertising back in to promoting the site, the idea is to build up a large userbase and eventually offer means of readers to further interact with the site.
Europe will be the main area of focus mainly because that’s where we spend most of our time travelling, city guides for major european cities will be written as well as information on frequent flyer schemes, credit cards, modes of transportation and accommodation.
This blog will not be part of the main site, but I will get round to linking to it from the main site soon. The blog is for random comments on travel related news and quick trip reports.
