Charge Cards

American Express Charge Cards are aimed at the high end customer. Unlike credit cards, charge cards have to be paid in full every month. In the UK American Express offers three levels of charge card: Green, Platinum and Centurion (black). The Green and Platinum cards are open to the public whereas the Centurion card is invite only and reserved for their best customers.

All charge cards offer enrollment in the Membership Rewards programme. Membership Rewards allow you to transfer miles to a number of leading airlines including Air France, BMI, Continental, KLM and Virgin Atlantic as well as a number of leading hotels. Benefits vary depending on your choice of card but include benefits such as comprehensive worldwide travel insurance, airline lounge access, medical assistance, 24 hour emergency worldwide card replacement and a personal concierge.

More information about the available options is available on the American Express website:

The Centurion (Black) Card

[Centurion] As mentioned above, The Centurion, one of the worlds most exclusive charge cards, is only available by invitation only to their best customers. The invite criteria varies between countries but in most countries you're unlikely to be invited unless you're currently a Platinum Charge Card customer. A high level of spending on items such as flights or luxury hotels will increase your chances of an invite. In many countries the Centurion Card is made out of titanium rather than plastic for extra durability.
