London City Airport - How To Get There

London City Airport is conveniently located close to Canary Wharf and is about 20 minutes from the City of London on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR). From Bank station take a train with destination 'King George V' as London City Airport is the stop before King George V. From Canary Wharf there's two options, one is to take the Jubilee Line to Canning Town and change for a DLR towards King George V, alternatively take the DLR from Canary Wharf and change at Poplar for a King George V train. Overall journey time should be approx 15 minutes from Canary Wharf.

London City Airport and Canning town are located in travelcard zone 3, Canary Wharf is zone 2 and the City of London is zone 1. If you don't have a travelcard covering zone 3 the cheapest option is Oyster pre-pay this will always give you the lowest fare if you remember to touch out on the Oyster card readers in the station. If you already have a travelcard covering part of the route (e.g zone 1-2) Oyster will only charge you a fare to cover the zone 3 part of your journey. It's part of TfL policy to charge double for cash fares on most routes in an attempt to change most people to Oyster. This means Oyster will save you money even if you very rarely use public transport in London. You can get Oyster at tube ticket offices, at selected newsagents and online.

When travelling from other areas in London aim to get the Jubilee line to Canning Town and change for the DLR.

The nearest National Rail station was Silvertown however this is now closed as the line was made redundant with the DLR services to London City and the surrounding areas. If you're travelling in from the east on National Rail then you can change at Stratford for a Jubilee line train to Canning Town.

The number of bus services serving the airport has been reduced following the successful completion of the DLR. A few local buses still serve the area.

A taxi rank is located outside of the terminal, next to the bus station. There's never a shortage of taxis at the airport and due to the size of the airport it's quite possible to be in a taxi 10 minutes after landing.
